Q-Cells Are Now Made In The USA

Q-Cells are now proudly produced in the USA, and probably the largest company you may never have heard of. Q-Cells are an extremely successful global brand winning awards around the world. They are now the largest manufactured panels in the entire Western Hemisphere, and are produced in Dalton, Georgia. This provides more jobs to the solar industry here in the US, and provides a lower costs for consumers in the US. WindMar Home has been working with Q-Cells for many years because of their cutting edge technologies, innovations, reliabilty, and productivity. Because of our years of working with them, and buying in such bulk for Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Utility Grid Solar we have an exclusive contract with them as a distributor that gets you the best prices on a Tier 1 Panel that is produced right here in the USA rather than over-seas!

Solar Tariffs

Because of the implemented Section 201 Solar Tariffs 80 to 90% of Tier 1 products will cost more until 2022. The current guidelines have a 30% tariff in 2018, a 25% tariff in 2019, a 20% tariff in 2020, and a 15% tariff in 2021 until the tariffs hopefully end in 2022. When you combine that with the Federal Solar Tax Credit that is reducing annually until it runs out completely with the tariffs. This can add a signinficant price increase for Residential Roof-Top Solar for going with an installer that is justifying the much larger cost difference for the over-seas purchased panels by calling them PREMIUM. Going this route is wiping out the additional money you would've saved without tariffs, and making it harder to start saving immediately when looking to go Net Zero from the start. Q-Cells have features and benefits that produce better than the majority of these over-sea manufactured solar panels, and degrade at a much slower rate than them as well. Do your research and don't overpay for a panel produced over-seas. Why pay more for Tier 1 technology from over-seas when you can get better technology here now for a much better price.


How Reliable Are Q-Cells Against Nature and Weather

Q-Cell Panels go through a series of rigorous testing to ensure that they pass all tests, and not damaged during the process. Once they have passed testing they are given a laser marking identification and sent out for distribution. Q-Cells have been tested against heavy wind, heavy snow, salt stress, hot and, desert and sand, high temperature and humidity, heavy pressure, and hail tested. They are able to withstand all elements and still produce at a high level. When attachtted to a roof rack mount the system they are rated to sustain constant winds of up to 140 mph. Mono-Crystalline vs Poly-Crystalline

 

This is very important when deciding what you should purchase for your roof-top solar.The prefix Poly is used because of the many pieces of Crystalline that are melted together to form one piece. It is a good product for larger scale installations in the commercial, industrial, or utility grid field to lower the numbers on those huge projects to keep them cost effective. This is not a good way to go for residential roof-top solar though. Why? Poly-Crystalline has a lower energy yeild because of having many pieces melted together to form one piece. Poly-Crystalline panels produce on average in between 13 to 16% less in the same amount of space than Mono-Crystalline panels do. This means Poly-Crystalline panels need a much larger size to produce the same amount of energy and require a much larger amount of  roof space. That means you are using much more space which may not be an option if you lack proper roof space, and many more panels to achieve the same amount of production. Poly-Crystalline panels are less resistant to heat, so have a faster degradation time, and will have to be replaced in your lifetime. Mono-Crystalline panels are much more resistant to heat, and therefore a much slower degradation time. Mono-Crystalline has a much higher energy yeild and greater energy production from being one piece. This maximizes the available space on your roof, and maximizing output and productivity with a much smaller area. The degradation period is much longer, and you may never have to replace them in your lifetime. This is not an area you want to cut costs or corners, and anyone that tells you otherwise should be asked to leave your home immediately. I would never have any of the families I work with put something on their home that I wouldn't put on my own.

What Is A PERC Mono-Crystalline Panel?

 

PERC stands for Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell. PERC was invented in Australia in 1980 but has only started taking off in the solar industry in the last three years. Solar panel cells can be divided into two categories:


  • N-Type SiliconHigh-end panels such as Q-Cell, LG Neon, Sunpower (E and X series) solar panels use expensive N-type silicon. This premium silicon allows for the most efficient cells, meaning the highest wattage panels on the market.
  • P-Type SiliconMost solar panel manufacturers use P-Type silicon. P-Type silicon is significantly less expensive, but P-Type cells are also less efficient, meaning they make lower wattage panels. P-Type modules currently dominate the industry


Thanks to PERC solar cells we can now get affordable panels at higher wattage. Q-Cells are the PERC N Type. All that means are that these type of Mono-Crystalline panels have a special outer surface and a reflective layer beneath it on the surface, and another layer on the bottom with power reflectors and local contacts that have another layer of aluminum behind them. Essentially the layers cause a ray of light to bounce around a beam of light inside of panel to get the most energy from each ray. This is the most cost effective, and energy efficient way to harness the most energy for residential roof-top solar at the highest wattages, and using the least amount of space. One major problem PERC panels face is LID which is an acronym for Light Induced Degredation. Q-Cells do not suffer from LID. (See the PICTURE GALLERY below for some PERC diagrams. How Does LID Light Induced Degredation Effect My Panels And Their Performance

LID-Light Induced Degredation is a condition that can take as much as 8% of your panels total production in the first few months from sun damage before they stabalize. That's a considerable amount of production lost in year one. So if you are looking at premium panels this is something you definitely need to factor. You don't want to over-pay for less production.  Q-Cells award winning ANTI-LID Technology guarantees that you lose no more than a total of 2% of production in year 1 and no more than .056% of production in every year after, and will be producing no less than 85% till year 25 on the warranty. So where other Mono-Crystalline panels can lose up to 8% of production in just several months, it would take a Q-Cell at least 12 years to reach that level of degredation. That means you recieve more power intially, and over lifetime of your system for more savings!

What Is A Half Cell Panel

Half-cell modules have solar cells that are cut in half, which improves the module's performance and durability.  When solar cells are halved, their current is also halved, so resistive losses are lowered and the cells can produce a little more power. Smaller cells experience reduced mechanical stresses, so there is a decreased opportunity for cracking.
